Hi Brandon, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Currently in life, most of my time goes to either working on my farm restoring it to help prepare for the wedding this September. I have a wonderful fiance that is always by my side and has been a pleasant addition to my daily routine. We have made it a goal to work out three days a week at 5 am to start our days off at the right pace and improve our overall health as a team. Aside from that, I would say I tend to be more of a homebody and find things around the house to occupy my time and energy.

What are some of the day-to-day responsibilities of your role at PLUS QA?

At the start of my day for work, it can vary on the day but I can say after a few months in this role I have obtained solid footing and made quite the workflow that I can be proud of. On most days I am testing on projects through a mixture of smoke and regression testing. Throughout the day testers will reach out to me with random questions about device issues and I will take my time to troubleshoot the issue and help them return back to their normal workday. On days I’m not testing, be it in the office or at home, I look over all our accounts on multiple platforms to make sure everything is as it should be.

What do you like best about your job?

I think what I like best about my job is flexibility, coming from a previous work environment that required a lot of driving and never being able to stay in one place for too long. This has been a welcomed change of pace and much better for my overall attitude toward work. The fact that if I’m home or at the office, I can still find objectives to do throughout the day and not feel that I’m wasting much time at the end of the day.

How long have you been working in QA?

Working directly in the QA field has been a great year for me and one that I look forward to continuing. Starting in January of 2022, I had little experience but enough to feel confident about what the job would expect of me.

In your own words, why do you believe QA is so important?

The more I work and talk to clients, the more I learn the value and appreciation that QA provides to the product and overall success of a company. By using our resources to find issues on a plethora of devices and operating systems, we are able to pinpoint certain problems that a standard run-through to make sure the product works wouldn’t always discover. Sometimes things are made for users with the newest devices and there may be someone that has a device from 5 years ago that they are still holding onto; with our help, we can make sure that no matter what the user has, the product will still be functioning for them as well.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone who is starting as a QA Analyst?

When starting with QA try to remember that it is not a race. Take your time in a respectable way and check every aspect of the product and make sure that even those little issues such as missing punctuation or awkward-looking padding is addressed so the client can truly know how detailed and serious we take their project and want it to be the best possible iteration that can be made for all to see.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I would say my biggest hobby is playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends on Monday and Wednesday nights. One of our campaigns has been ongoing for almost 5 years and has been fun to look forward to each and every week. Along with that, I enjoy playing a variety of board games from Ticket to Ride, Splendor, cribbage, and many others. When I’m outside though I tend to focus on farm work, most recently I learned how to prune the fruit trees in the orchard so come the fall time I will be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor once again.
