Tomorrow, March 8, is International Women’s Day, an annual celebration of women — appropriately acknowledged during Women’s History Month — and their contribution to society.
The earliest observance was February 28, 1909 in New York City, and now, every March 8 women are recognized around the world not only for their invaluable contributions, but also for the ways in which their position in global societies is still lacking.
At PLUS QA, we celebrate International Women’s Day by honoring the professional and personal contributions of our women team members — while also working to find even more ways to guarantee gender equity in our company and beyond.
This year, the theme for International Women’s Day is #BalanceForBetter. And it’s more than just a catchy hashtag: research has shown that diverse teams outperform smarter teams. And as the International Women’s Day website notes: “Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.”
But while the business case for gender equity has been made before, there’s still work to be done, and #BalanceForBetter is a message and a mission that seeks to improve the gender-balance in boardrooms, government, media coverage, employees, wealth, sports coverage, and more.
Celebrating the Women of PLUS QA
“Diversity is a core value at PLUS QA, which means making a conscious effort to . . . proactively present opportunities to groups of people who are often underrepresented.” – Manu Bonnet
At PLUS QA, we work to be part of the solution.
“Diversity is a core value at PLUS QA, which means making a conscious effort to not just hire the best person for the job — but to also proactively present opportunities to groups of people who are often underrepresented,” said Manu Bonnet, Founder and CEO of PLUS QA. “The women who work at PLUS QA are integral to our company, and add many significant skills, communication and management habits, experience, and ideas to our client projects and our culture. I’m very grateful for their contribution!”
Since last year, the number of women working at PLUS QA has increased by over 55%. We have women working in varying positions and in varying levels — from QA testing to project management to staffing, operations, and marketing — and women employees make up more than half of our leadership team.
We support these women, and every full-time member of our staff, by providing opportunities for professional development and career growth, offering paid parental leave, and cultivating a company culture that supports equality and zero-tolerance for harassment.
Balancing the Scales in the Workplace and the World
According to a recent release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up nearly half of the US workforce and consistently outperform men in education and entrepreneurship.
“Female representation has a trickle-down effect within the workplace,” says Paige Coffman, Staffing Coordinator and People Manager at PLUS QA. “When female employees see other women in leadership roles it creates a sense of motivation; it encourages women to strive to be the best version of themselves in the workplace.”
And yet, according the World Economic Forum’s 2018 Global Gender Gap Report, we are still 202 years away from achieving gender parity. This, of course, means not just celebrating the achievements of women and recognizing the need for greater gender equity once a year — it means putting in the work to make necessary changes every day.
At PLUS QA, we will continue to work toward gender balance in our team, our pay, our opportunities, and more. And tomorrow, and every day, we celebrate the professional and personal accomplishments of the women at PLUS QA and women everywhere.
