Meet Omar Antila, from Finland to Philly

Where are you from?

I grew up in Finland and I moved to Portland, OR in 2003 when I was in my early 20s. After 12 years of living in Portland I decided to move to the Big Island of Hawaii. Then, after a couple of years of island living, I moved to Philadelphia, PA to open an East Coast outpost for PLUS QA.

What do you do for fun?

I compete in Powerlifting and train about 8-10 hours per week on average. I also enjoy being out in nature and usually do something outdoorsy on the weekends like hiking.

What do you like about working in QA?

I’m a very analytical and detail-focused person and enjoy improving things so QA has been a good fit for my personality type. I also like the experience we get by working with a diverse group of clients. I’ve been involved with hundreds of different product releases by now and that’s given me some very valuable experience and insight into the tech scene.

What has your experience at Plus QA been like so far?

I joined back in 2012 when the company was pretty small. There were only a handful of us at that point. I came on board with a goal of growing some of our bigger accounts and scaling our processes up to match with the growth. It’s been rewarding to see us go from 5 to 50+ people in a calm and controlled manner while retaining the same type of company culture we started with.

I think the coolest thing about our company is how diverse we are. Having people from various cultures and backgrounds keeps things more stimulating. I think it also enables us to be much more creative than the average company.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

I’m planning on getting more familiar with the local tech and startup scene in Philly and hoping to grow our team here so it should be a pretty interesting year. On the personal side I’m looking forward to exploring my new home city and everything the East Coast has to offer. I have some road trip planning to do! I’m also looking forward to checking out some local Powerlifting meets.
