Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the greater Tokyo area and moved to Pittsburgh, PA for college in my late 20’s. After completing my bachelor’s degree in computer science, I found an internship position at a translation company in Salem, so I put everything I had in my compact sedan (office chair was the biggest furniture piece I owned) and drove from PA to OR in 5 days.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy many things. I feel so lucky to live in the Portland area where there are so many places to hike and bike. With my hiking friends, we go to the Columbia Gorge or Mt. Hood almost every week for hiking, backpacking in the summertime, and snowshoeing in the wintertime. Indoor rock climbing is another thing I really enjoy. I’m excited about our new office location because it’s very close to my favorite indoor bouldering/climbing gyms.
What do you like about working in QA?
I love the fact that I can take vacations to visit my family in Japan and my husband’s family in France. I appreciate Manu for giving me this flexibility to manage work-life balance, and this means a lot to me.
What has your experience at Plus QA been like so far?
It’s been almost 8 years since I started working for PLUS QA in 2009. Back then, it was only Manu and I, mainly testing websites in a shared office. The first 2 offices I worked in were shared. As the company grew, Manu finally rented the first PLUS QA office room in the Hollywood district. Then, we moved to the MLK location, and moved again to a bigger space inside the same building. Now, PLUS QA finally has its own office building! It’s amazing to witness how fast and steadily the company is growing.
What are you most looking forward to in 2017?
I’m looking forward to the lunch options we’ll have in the East Burnside area. I love chicken wings and the Jerk chicken sandwich at Fire on the Mountain, but I’m open to any recommendations. Let me know if you know good restaurants 🙂
